Mike Sluder is the chief investment officer and serves on the executive leadership team of The Family Office at Synovus. He chairs the firm’s Investment Committee, which currently oversees $7 billion in family assets and is tasked with setting policy, establishing processes, conducting due diligence, and delivering strategy ideas to portfolio managers. As a leader, Mike likes ‘flat organizations,’ where every team member’s ideas are valued and the door is always open for new and innovative approaches.

In addition to leading the investment group, Mike is responsible for managing the firm’s largest and most complex client relationships, which suits his passion for intellectual stimulation and problem-solving. Mike most enjoys working with families because of the intricacies and inspiration behind their stories, and also because charitable giving and community involvement are often part of every family’s legacy. In his advisory work with families, Mike firmly believes that solutions exist in the ability to deliver a highly customized strategy, not a product.

Before joining The Family Office at Synovus in 2006, Mike worked at a singlefamily office where he gained valuable experience in alternative investments, real estate, multi-generational trusts and a deeper understanding of how families work. Prior to that, he served as a junior bond trader at SouthTrust Bank and worked in credit administration. As a bond trader, he identified fixed income investment opportunities for small banks, corporations, pension plans and institutions.

Mike earned a Master’s in Economics and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Alabama and holds a Charter Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation. In addition to his work at The Family Office at Synovus, Mike serves as a Trustee for the Ridge United Methodist Church and is a member of the Atlanta Society of Financial Analysts. He also serves on a few limited partner advisor committees and is a frequent speaker on the benefits of alternative investments. In his free time, Mike enjoys relaxing with his wife and three children, which often involves a trip to the dog park with their golden retriever.
